# Create an API key

Make a key for a script or an AI agent, choose what it may do, and keep it safe.

An API key lets a script, a spreadsheet integration or an AI agent work with your events and guest lists without using your login. Keys belong to the workspace, so everyone in it sees the same list.

1. Go to [Settings > API keys](https://app.ueventi.com/dashboard/settings/api-keys).
2. Click **Create key**.
3. Give it a name you'll recognise later, like the tool that will use it.
4. Tick the permissions it needs: **Read events**, **Read guests and RSVPs**, **Add guests** or **Export guest lists**.
5. Click **Create key** and copy the key that appears.

> **Warning:** The key is shown only once. Copy it now and store it somewhere safe, like a password manager. If you lose it, revoke it and create a new one.

## Choosing permissions

Give each key only what it needs. A reporting tool only needs **Read events** and **Read guests and RSVPs**. A tool that adds guests also needs **Add guests**. **Export guest lists** lets it download a CSV with every guest's phone number, so hand that out carefully.

## Revoking a key

If a key leaks or you stop using a tool, open **API keys** and click **Revoke** next to it. Anything using that key stops working right away. The key stays in the list marked **Revoked** so you can see when it was last used.

> **Note:** Keys start with **ev_live_**. Never paste one into a chat, a ticket or a shared document - anyone who has it can read your guest list.
